"Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger, as if they were going to be dead at midnight. Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again."
This is a community set up to write about slices of life: these are those moments that happen in your life with total strangers that move you or touch you in such a way as to leave a lasting impression. For example, I was once going through a break up and I was sitting on the bathroom floor of a restaurant crying. A woman walked in to use the restroom and when she was washing her hands she looked down at me and said "Looks like you are having a rough day." I just nodded through my tears. She leaned over and said "I really don't have any advice, but _I_ always feel better with fresh breath." She handed me a mint, patted my shoulder and left. I'll forever remember this stranger who shared her mints with me in my time of crisis. She may not remember and she certainly doesn't know that her tiny act of kindness moved me.
